In community, students used a visual scavenger hunt sheet to find different health products like deodorant, vitamins, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash. Students also looked for brand names of gum and purposes of greeting cards. Check out the pictures below. After the trip, students took time to present their learning books to each other in small group. Students needs to practice speaking at an appropriate volume with clear language and active listening skills.
Today, students found items around the store, recording the sale price and original price. Then, the group used calculators to find the difference between the original price and the sale price (TJMaxx price). Check out the pictures below! At the YMCA! Over the last few weeks, students went to Brookfield Square Mall and Metro Market. One week was cancelled due to the weather! Check out all their learning below! Places SortFor the last few weeks after each community based learning experience, students had to work in groups as a team to sort places into categories. Students needed to take turns speaking and listening; use clear language, communication devices or choices to share; and make sure to use active listening skills (brain with the group, thinking about what the person is saying, body facing/eyes on the speaker. Categories included: 1) Places I go to help myself 2) Places I go for recreation and leisure 3) Places I go to get help 4) Places I go to eat Metro MarketAt Metro Market, students worked on finding items by letter of the alphabet. Then, they wrote the item's name or drew a picture and wrote the price!
