Today, the group went to El Zocalo for brunch and to the YMCA tour led by Mr. Jon. Thank you so much for having us! Before leaving, Xander led the group in expected behavior discussion. Way to go, Xander! At El Zocalo, students practiced fork and knife skills to cut pancakes, practiced appropriate ordering skills and table manners, and practiced conversation skills with friends. Today, the group went to Goodwill and practiced finding items for various locations of a house (items for the kitchen, items for the bathroom, etc.) as well as clothing for various purposes (wearing at home, wearing to school, wearing for a job interview).
Before our trip, Wyatt led the group in the expected behaviors discussion. Way to go, Wyatt! Take a look at the photos below! Today, the group went to CVS Pharmacy and discussed what a drugstore is and what we could find there. We discussed that a drugstore is a place we can find medicine if we are feeling sick. Students used a visual scavenger hunt to find items and answer questions about what you found such as writing down 3 occasions you would buy a greeting card for. Check out the photos below!
Today, students voted for which activity they wanted to do. They chose to find items based on color. Students worked in small groups to find items around the store, then recorded the item name next to the color on their recording sheets.
Before leaving for the trip, Shane led the group in the expected behavior discussion. Way to go, Shane! Shane had to practice appropriate questioning with appropriate voice volume and recording responses accurately. Students needed to practice whole body listening, appropriate voice volume, and making their message clear when sharing. After the trip, students continued to work on their community learning books and took turns practicing speaking and listening skills to share their books with each other.
